Democratic Candidate for Judge of Elections, Ward 2
Barbara Simmons is running for Judge of Elections in Newtown’s Ward 2, and is eager to run for this position out of her passion for truth, justice and fairness. We have spent the last few years being divided as a nation and she has been deeply disturbed by leaders of the GOP who question the 2020 election results. She felt she had to be part of the solution in protecting our fragile democracy. Simmons has been an enthusiastic voter her entire life wants to ensure people can trust their vote. The task of the Judge of Elections is to ensure all votes are accurately counted and privacy is protected, and she will take that job seriously.
Simmons retired from The Peace Center after 30 years as executive director. (TPC is an educational organization dedicated to building bridges of peace and social justice) She specializes in Conflict Transformation, Mediation, Restorative Justice and is a Racial Equity educator. She spent 20 years as an adjunct instructor at Arcadia University’s International Peace and Conflict Resolution master’s program. Simmons raised two daughters here in the CRSD, and adopted a son who spent too many years in the foster care system. She lives with her husband Steve Nolan, a mental health specialist, author and poet.
