More about Bill...
I first heard of Newtown when we knew we were
planning a move from upstate New York to the Philadelphia area. I
told my sister-in-law, who had grown up in Bucks County, that we were
looking for a place with a small town feel, a strong sense of community
and interesting history, but with easy access to Philadelphia and New
York; she said "Oh, you mean Newtown!" We
visited and quickly agreed that this was the place for us. We
lived on Jefferson St. for six years, and have been on North Chancellor
St for ten years.
I live in our 1884 house with my wife Linda, who
is the Library Director at
George School,
our adopted Greyhound Daisy Fay and two cats. Our daughter Martha
and her husband Ben live in Washington DC.
I am Vice President of
Engineering for
Syncro Technology Corp, a specialty software engineering company in
Langhorne, where I am responsible for all of our engineering projects
and personnel management. We develop software for products such as
medical and laboratory devices.
Ever since we moved to Newtown, we have been
active members of Newtown Friends Meeting, one of the largest and
fastest growing Quaker Meetings in the Philadelphia region. I
served on many committees and have been Clerk (lay head) of the Meeting. I have
also worked with Trenton Habitat for Humanity and Literacy Volunteers,
and I now serve on two not-for-profit boards --
Mercer
Street Friends, a social service agency in Trenton, and
Pennswood
Village, the nearby retirement community. I enjoy a wide range
of music, particularly jazz and classical, and we regularly attend plays
at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, and the Arden in Philadelphia.
I decided to run for Borough Council primarily
because I want to give back to the wonderful community that has given so
much to my family. I have
learned much about how Borough government works through my ten years on
the Planning Commission and I feel ready to take the next step in
helping to keep Newtown the remarkable place that it is, while preparing
for an uncertain and challenging future. I also feel that offering
voters a choice is essential to democracy and to ensuring that we have
the most effective local government possible.
